Fourteen teams participated in the league, eleven state teams and three club teams, with Selangor FA as the defending champions. The season began on 9 January 2010 and ended on 3 August 2010. Selangor defended their title. The opening match of the season between Negeri Sembilan FA and Selangor also doubled up as the Malaysia Charity Shield. Selangor FA won 2–1. ==Teams== A total of 14 teams compete in the 2010 season which includes the top 11 teams that participated in the 2009 season and champions and runners-up of the 2009 Malaysia Premier League. PDRM FA were relegated at the end of the 2009 Malaysia Super League season after finishing in the bottom place of the league table.Furthermore, UPB-MyTeam FC and Kuala Muda Naza FC withdrawed from the league after the conclusion of the 2009 season.
